192/17

On 18-20 May, the President of the Argentine Republic and his delegation will make a State Visit to Japan, at the invitation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his visit to Argentina in November 2016.

It is worth noting that President Macri is the first Argentine Head of State to visit Japan in 19 years, since the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Tomorrow, President Mauricio Macri will participate in a working breakfast with Japanese businesspeople and high-ranking representatives from the Japanese Investment and Cooperation Agencies. He will then inaugurate the Argentina-Japan Economic Forum.

In the afternoon, Macri will hold a meeting with the President of the Japan-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship League and the Minister in charge of Administrative Reform, Kozo Yamamoto, who will receive him alongside Representatives from the Upper and Lower Houses of the Japanese Parliament and officials from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Afterwards, the President of the Argentine Republic will be received by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with whom he will hold a working meeting on major bilateral political, economic, trade and investment issues. In this context, agreements will be signed on a variety of issues. The Japanese Prime Minister will then offer a banquet in honour of the President and the First Lady.

On Saturday 20 May, President Macri and the First Lady will be received by Their Imperial Majesties, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, at the Tokyo Imperial Palace. The Emperor is Japan's Head of State. It must be noted that Their Imperial Majesties do not usually receive official visits during the weekends, which makes this meeting a very special and momentous occasion.

In addition, the President and the First Lady will engage in cultural activities, including a visit to the historical and traditional Meiji Shrine.
