The 1st Round of Negotiations for the Bilateral Expansion and Strengthening of the Economic Complementarity Agreement between the Argentine Republic and the Republic of Peru opened today at the Palacio San Martín.
The activity was presided over by the Secretary for International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry, Horacio Reyser, who referred to the negotiations as "a priority for Argentina" and called on the parties to carry out intense work to achieve concrete results soon. The Peruvian Ambassador to Argentina, Peter Camino Cannok, expressed Peru's interest in updating bilateral trade relations through the incorporation of new chapters that promote and improve trade exchanges.
With a view to strengthening the existing regulatory framework to facilitate trade, an expansion of the current economic complementarity agreement is expected, especially in the field of services, investments, SMEs and electronic commerce, among other issues.
"This negotiation is in line with the closer relationship between Argentina and the Pacific Alliance and aims at detecting concrete opportunities, for instance in the mining sector, in which Peru has great experience and Argentina great potential," Reyser stated.
Bilateral trade between both countries exceeds USD 1.3 billion, according to 2018 records, with Argentina's trade surplus amounting to USD 980 million. Main Argentine exports include soybean oil, vehicles for transportation of people and goods, wheat and shrimp.
