The Argentine Republic is pleased to celebrate the Argentine-Chilean Friendship Day, which commemorates the historical Maipú Embrace between national heroes José de San Martín and Bernardo O’Higgings on 5 April 1818, after the victory at the Battle of Maipú.
This historical milestone is of major importance for the bilateral relationship, as it symbolizes unity and fellowship between two brotherly nations. For centuries, the brotherly embrace between San Martín and O’Higgings has been a token of cooperation and friendship between our peoples.
On this festive day, we reiterate Argentina’s firm commitment to continuing to promote peace, freedom, integration and development in the region, while acknowledging the importance of joining forces to address the global and regional challenges we face today.
