Bilateral meeting between President Mauricio Macri and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
Today, an Agreement on the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments was signed between Argentina and Japan, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit and after two years of intense negotiations.
This Agreement is included within the so-called "third-generation agreements," gathering international and national experience in the field of investments. The result is a modern and balanced instrument which provides enhanced legal certainty and predictability not only to States but also to investors.
The newly signed Agreement reaffirms the right of States to regulate and while keeping a high level of protection for investors, fostering productive capital inflows.
Japan is among the main sources of foreign direct investment, with a worldwide stock of USD 1.5 trillion all over the world, but only USD 500 million in Argentina.
This Agreement aims at improving the position and reflects the growing interest of Japanese industrialists in Argentina, as evidenced by recent announcements in the automobile sector.
