Mission of the Ministry of Production and Labour, alongside the Argentine Foreign Ministry. The goal is to improve access conditions to the Mexican market, especially for the agro-industrial sector.
A delegation headed by the Minister of Production and Labour, Dante Sica, and comprised of the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser, and the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Marisa Bircher, travelled to Mexico in order to attend bilateral meetings with Mexican authorities, where they agreed on a joint work programme aimed at advancing current trade negotiations.
The goal of these negotiations is to improve access conditions to the Mexican market, especially for the agro-industrial sector, while exploring options to address Mexican demands, but being aware of the sensitivities of Argentine industrial sectors.
They also aim at including disciplines such as trade in services, electronic commerce, investments and government procurement, which will update current agreements and boost trade.
Mexico is a strategic partner for Argentina. In 2018, exports to Mexico exceeded USD 735 million (13% more than in 2017). Over 60% of Argentine exports to Mexico are industrially manufactured products, including vehicles, chemical products and other machinery.
However, there is still room for improvement in bilateral trade. By way of example, Chilean exports to Mexico nearly double Argentine exports. Strengthening bilateral trade with Mexico is also an important step towards establishing closer ties with Pacific Alliance countries.
