Yesterday, an event on digitalization and innovation was held at the Argentine Foreign Ministry during the visit of a delegation of 50 people from the German Federal Republic, comprised of members of universities and academic institutions, scientists and businesspeople, and headed by the Minister of Economy, Science and Digital Society of the State of Thuringia, Wolfgang Tiefensee.

Before the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi held a meeting with the German Ambassador to Argentina, Jürgen Mertens, and Minister Tiefensee, where they reviewed the schedule of the visit. On this occasion, the Minister from Thuringia offered to create a mechanism for the training of Argentine students at German centres of vocational training for a limited period of time.

During the event held later at the Auditorium of the National Foreign Service Institute, Minister Tiefensee noted that the visit to Argentina had created huge expectations for the delegation, who were eager to better understand the economic, political and social situation in Argentina and, in order to do so, followed a busy schedule of meetings, visits and business events.

The Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, took part in a dialogue on "Policies of Science and Technology Coordination in Argentina," and stated that "one of the greatest challenges in our field is to connect science with production."

The schedule of the German delegation will continue with meetings with Secretary Barañao and the Deputy Chief of Cabinet of Ministers and the Argentine Secretary of State for Modernization, Andrés Ibarra, as well as their respective technical teams, with a view to strengthening lines of work and joint cooperation.

Thuringia is one of Germany's most dynamic and innovative Federated States, boasting the largest number of industries per capita in the country. The economic dynamism achieved over the last few years resulted in the lowest unemployment rate among the five new Federated States. Thuringia is characterized by its large number of universities (12) and research centres (26), its increasing importance in the field of intellectual property and the main industrial sectors (automobile, electronics, optics, food, metallurgy, machinery and plastics, among others) and its leading role in the renewable energy industry.
