Argentina – Guatemala: 100 years of diplomatic relations

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Argentina and Guatemala, Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi met with the Guatemalan Ambassador, Roni Abiú Chalí Lopez.

Deputy Foreign Minister Raimondi expressed the satisfaction of the Argentine Government at the strong bilateral bond of friendship which has existed between Argentina and Guatemala since their independence, based on their common roots, as reflected by the traditions and culture of both countries.

Mr. Raimondi stated Argentina's willingness to continue working to increase and strengthen ties with the Republic of Guatemala, in the areas which both Governments identify as priorities for the welfare of their peoples.

In addition, Ambassador Raimondi wished Guatemala every success in the organization of the 26th Ibero-American Summit and announced that Argentina will be duly represented at the Summit.

Diplomatic relations between the Argentine Republic and the Republic of Guatemala were established on 7 October 1918, when President Hipólito Yrigoyen appointed Federico M. Quintana as Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Central America through an executive order.
