Argentina – India: Meeting at the Foreign Ministry to give new boost to bilateral economic relations

On 1 February, the Secretary for International Economic Relations, Ambassador Marcelo Cima, received the Ambassador of India to Argentina, Dinesh Bhatia, and they reviewed key topics of the bilateral cooperation and economic and trade relations between both countries.

On the occasion, they highlighted the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Argentina that will take place this year.

As regards bilateral trade, they agreed on the interest in restoring the historical peak recorded in 2022, when overall trade reached nearly USD 6.4 billion, with a surplus of USD 2.7 billion for Argentina.

As for investments, they highlighted the participation of Indian companies in the mining sector, among other areas of interest in our country. Moreover, they analyzed the monitoring of cooperation in space matters.

Ambassadors Cima and Bhatia agreed to convene the Joint Commission and the Joint Trade Committee during the first half of this year.

Finally, they agreed on the opportunity to strengthen the relationship between MERCOSUR and India, which signed a Preferential Trade Agreement in 2004 that should be updated.
