British health authorities have confirmed their recognition of Argentina’s self-declaration as a country free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and, therefore, restrictions on poultry imports are lifted as of today.

The opening of this market is the result of the coordinated work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship; the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; and the Argentine Animal Health and Agri-food Quality Service (SENASA), and was based on information provided by the national technical agency in the past few months.

In 2022, the United Kingdom was the 12th largest market for Argentina’s poultry exports, reaching USD 3.1 million. However, in 2023, there was a sharp drop (over 60%) as a result of Argentina’s self-suspension in April due to the avian flu outbreak.
