Faurie ditched off his activities in the United Kingdom with a meeting with Jeremy Hunt to discuss key items on the broad bilateral agenda

On the first day of his visit to the United Kingdom, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, together with Ambassador Carlos Sersale, was received this morning in London by the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Jeremy Hunt, with whom he discussed items on the bilateral agenda during a meeting at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, joined Hunt at the meeting.

Faurie and Hunt agreed on the importance of Argentina and the United Kingdom, which hold long-standing bilateral relations, continuing to strengthen this new stage mutual trust building, through concrete progress. In this regard, they also agreed on the significance of high-level meetings between government officials from both countries in the last three years.

Both Foreign Ministers highlighted the joint work and agreements reached between research institutes and academic institutions, as well as by the Argentine and British private sectors, on various matters such as public health, industrial innovation and scientific-technical cooperation.  They also underscored the progress of joint cooperation and research in Antarctica.

As regards economic issues, with a current trade surplus for Argentina, they noted the great potential of increasing opportunities for mutual benefit and agreed to strengthen bilateral work to achieve greater cooperation between Governments and the private sector, fostering exports and the growth of investments in strategic sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mining, telecommunications and agri-business.

Despite historic differences on the Question of the Malvinas Islands, the Argentine Government continues engaging in significant and constructive dialogue with the United Kingdom and, within this context, both Foreign Ministers agreed to continue working to achieve an understanding on flights to increase connectivity between the Argentine mainland and the Malvinas Islands.

Finally, they discussed the next G20 meeting and the visit of British Prime Minister May to Buenos Aires on the occasion of the G20 Summit.
