Argentine artists and designers were invited to Open House 2018
With a strong presence of art and design, on 22-23 September Argentina will take part in Open House London, which is one of the world's largest architecture festivals, with over 250,000 visitors every year.
Threads, the exhibition curated by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, delves into the bonds that link Argentina and the United Kingdom through art and culture.
Open House is held in 35 cities across all 5 continents, including Buenos Aires since 2013 and Rosario as from this year. To mark Argentina’s participation for the 13th year in a row, the Embassy has invited a group of Argentine artists and designers to work around the theme of the invisible threads that join our countries.
Argentina's participation will be through the Residence of the Argentine Ambassador in London, which is one of the 800 buildings that can be visited in London during Open House. Designed by Thomas Cubitt in 1824, the Residence has belonged to Argentina since 1936 and was recognized by Time Out London magazine as one of the top spots for cultural activity in the charming streets of Belgravia.
Today, lectures on Argentine contemporary art were delivered by Erika Teichert, a researcher at Cambridge University, in addition to lectures on design by TRImarchi team. The Residence will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.
TRImarchi designers will be showing a documentary on their experience with The Impenetrable Forest, which has been adorning the Argentine pavilion at the 2018 London Design Biennale since 4 September.
The Centre for Sound Art at the Casa del Bicentenario will be represented by a series of pieces created by Diego Alberti and curated by Matias Lennie Bruno. Alberti's work features Argentine soundscapes and will be presented in the 2018 Convergence Exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
In the house’s dining room, artist Catalina Chervin — whose work is part of the British Museum’s permanent collection — will be showing her piece Partituras de Sanación, created especially for Open House Threads.
Coinciding with London Fashion Week, Argentine designer Clara Pinto will be presenting a fashion collection inspired by the scars and blemishes that define our identities.
Argentina’s presence in OH2018 is part of a wider cultural agenda promoted by the Argentine Embassy to the United Kingdom since September, which also includes participation at the London Design Biennale, Mika Rottenberg’s exhibition at the Goldsmith Centre for Contemporary Art and the Hyperlocal music festival.
