The Argentine Foreign Ministry informs of the situation of Mercedes Albinati, who is hospitalized at the Chiang Mai Hospital, 800 km. away from Bangkok, at the border with Myanmar.
Albinati and her husband, Carlos Mariscotti, were on a tourist trip in Chiang Mai when she had a stroke and had to undergo surgery. She is currently in the process of recovery.
The Argentine Embassy in Bangkok has provided Mariscotti with assistance and worked to facilitate the return of the Argentine couple since the beginning.
It is worth highlighting that the Embassy and the General Directorate for Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry managed to considerably reduce the medical expenses actually incurred and obtained authorization from Thai authorities for the patient's discharge, given the insufficient coverage of her travel insurance policy. In view of this situation, a series of negotiations continue and are expected to offer a solution.
The Consul in Thailand will travel once again to Chiang Mai with a view to defining and formalizing the departure of Mariscotti and Albinati from Bangkok to Buenos Aires, together with medical services that guarantee the patient's stability during the flight.
