The Argentine Foreign Ministry co-sponsored the "Regional consultations for Latin America and the Caribbean in the lead-up to the 63rd UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63)" meeting, which took place on 11-12 December in Buenos Aires.
Thanks to a coordinated effort between Argentina and UN Women, Buenos Aires was elected to host this important meeting which brought together top authorities on gender equality and women's empowerment in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The improvement of social protection systems, access to public services and promotion of sustainable infrastructure for gender equality were discussed, in addition to receiving concerns and proposals from civil society organizations in the region.
The meeting was opened by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Carolina Stanley, and was co-chaired by the Executive Director of Argentina's National Women's Institute (INAM), Fabiana Tunez, and the Director of Uruguay's National Women's Institute (INMUJERES), Mariella Mazzotti, under the auspices of the UN Women Americas and the Caribbean Regional Office. The Argentine delegation was comprised of officials from the National Women's Institute (INAM) and the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
The meeting ended with the adoption of the "Buenos Aires Declaration" which reflects priorities in the region and contains a series of recommendations, strategies and common positions to influence the sixty-third session of the CSW, the main international intergovernmental organization exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment.
