Today, Argentina and the Philippines commemorated the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations at a ceremony held in the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, which was chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi and the Philippine Ambassador to Argentina, Linglingay Lacanlale.

During the event, they reviewed highlights of the friendly and fruitful bilateral relations, and the facts that point to more intense relations not only at the bilateral level, but also through Mercosur and Asean, blocs of which both countries are members respectively.

The Philippines is the Asian country with most Hispanic traditions, resulting in several idiosyncratic similarities between the peoples of the Philippines and Argentina. With a population of 102 million inhabitants, the Philippines is the main tourism source for Argentina among Southeast Asian countries, has investments in Argentina and is an important destination for Argentine exports, which there is interest in diversifying and increasing even more.

Bilateral cooperation covers such varied fields as agriculture, culture, education and sports.

During the event, artist groups gave a performance which presented traditional music from both countries, as a way to promote closer ties between their respective cultures.

Also present at the ceremony were national authorities, members of the foreign diplomatic corps, private sector representatives and academics who maintain close relations with the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
