Copa America: Celebration of “Argentine Day” at the Argentine Embassy in Washington, D.C.

On 6 June, the Argentine Embassy in Washington, D.C. celebrated “Argentine Day”, on the occasion of the upcoming Copa America, hosted by the United States. The event was part of an initiative led by the Foreign Ministry to promote Argentina’s exports in the context of the major sporting events of 2024, including the Copa America and the Paris Olympics.

First, there was a segment on the promotion of Argentine products from all the productive regions, to show the country’s significant number of high-quality exportable goods. The exhibition was attended by Maryland Deputy Secretary of State Michael W. Lore; Maryland Sports Commission Executive Director Terry Hasseltine; a number of business representatives from supermarkets and other retail stores, distributors, importers, hotels and restaurants; trade press and guests from other embassies, among others.

The event also featured a section focused on sports and the Argentine National Football Squad, aimed at promoting Argentine football teams. In addition, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) invited nearly 50 important chamber representatives and businesspeople to a workshop on Argentina’s exportable supply, trade policy and investment and tourism promotion, which was part of the monthly events hosted by the GWHCC, together with Latin American embassies in Washington, D.C. Then, embassy officials from the Economic and Commercial Section and the Agricultural Office made presentations, followed by a Q&A session.

 

The products and brands showcased in the event included:

  • Cheeses by La Serenísima, Santa Rosa and Verónica
  • Fractionated honey by Alquimia and Argenmieles
  • Oils by El Mistol and Oliovita
  • Candy by Arcor
  • Yerba mate by CBSé and Rosamonte 
  • Peanut butter by One Trick Pony
  • Dulce de leche by La Serenísima, San Ignacio, and Vacalín
  • Beef provided by the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA)
  • Seafood (shrimp and squid) by Grupo Veraz, Illex Fishing and Red Chamber
  • Lemons from Northwestern Argentina, including organic lemons
  • Beverages by Quilmes (beer), La Fuerza (vermouth), Gran Dante and Piedras 202 (wines), among others
  • Textiles provided by an artisan from the Province of Salta, Patricia Rivas Orozco

The catering service, which included Argentine empanadas and pastries, was provided by Pampa Fox, an Argentine business based in Virginia, which will soon be opening a bakery in Washington, D.C. Dolcezza, an Argentine business owned by Violeta Edelman, which has 6 ice-cream stores across Washington, D.C., offered dulce de leche ice-cream at the event. Dermaglós cosmetic products were also showcased.
