The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship has granted asylum to Bolivia's former President, Evo Morales Ayma, and to four former members of his government.

The former president arrived today in Argentina with his former minister, Lilly Gabriela Montaño Viaña.

The asylum seekers will obtain definitive refugee status, a process that takes place in Argentine territory before the National Commission for Refugees (CONARE), which reports to the Ministry of the Interior.

Once the process has been completed, the Ministry of the Interior shall monitor compliance with the conditions of refugee status.

Both Morales Ayma and Montaño Viaña signed the relevant petition upon arriving at Ezeiza International Airport, and they will be granted refugee status in a few hours.
