Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie attended the "Parliamentary Forum and Speakers’ Summit", jointly organized by the Argentine Congress and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held until 2 November within the context of the next G20 Leaders' Summit taking place on 30 November in Buenos Aires.

Joined by the Argentine Vice President and President of the Senate, Gabriela Michetti, the President (Speaker) of the House of Deputies, Emilio Monzó, and the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Mexican Senator, Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, Foreign Minister Faurie underscored the importance of the "political perspective of members of parliament" in addressing central debates currently posed by G20 members.

"To me, members of parliament are among the most relevant political actors to contribute today with a political element that surpasses a merely technical vision. They are well aware of all concerns and demands of society, are in direct contact with voters and are elected to represent the will of the people. Their debates and closeness to issues discussed by the G20 are essential to build a viewpoint beyond the current situation," Faurie stated in the presence of legislators from all countries participating in the Summit.

The Foreign Minister underscored that holding the G20 Presidency is "a great challenge and honour" for Argentina, in a difficult context of tensions and a world in transition, in which the international system is redefining itself."

"Argentina assumes this role with humbleness, but also with a great sense of responsibility. Our vision is the one of a southern, large and diverse country in constant development, which is experiencing a fundamental change towards greater integration into the world," Faurie added.

"You can rest assured that the leaders of your respective countries will receive a warm welcome and that the results of the Summit will benefit the Argentine people and the whole world, which now more than ever needs to build consensus," he concluded.

The international parliamentary forum, lasting three days, aims at fostering and encouraging members of parliament of G20 countries -and invited guests- to make contributions to the consideration and debate of items on the G20 agenda.
