Faurie meets UN Women Executive Director

During her visit to Argentina, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will inaugurate the UN Women’s office in Argentina and will participate in the Women 20 Summit held in Buenos Aires.

Foreign Minister Faurie met today with UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka during her visit to Argentina, which is in line with the Argentine Government's policy of strengthening joint work and collaboration with international organizations of which Argentina is a member, especially in the field of human rights.

During her visit, the Executive Director will participate in the Women 20 International Summit (W20) in Buenos Aires and, in furtherance of the Cooperation Agreement between the Argentine Foreign Ministry and UN Women, Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka will inaugurate the UN Women´s Office in Argentina, which will benefit Argentina through its internationally funded programmes for women's economic empowerment and the eradication of gender-based violence.

"Our country is committed to women's empowerment. We strongly believe that gender equality will make Argentina a better country and that the defence of the rights of women and girls is essential for our development," Faurie stated at the working meeting with Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

The Executive Director's visit and the inauguration of UN Women's Office mark a significant milestone for the development of policies aimed at the defence of the rights of women and girls. They are also a way to strengthen ties and cooperation with UN Women in the next years.

Argentina includes the promotion of women's empowerment and gender equality among its priorities, emphasizing the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
