The High-Level Conference on South-South Cooperation beginning tomorrow will bring together representatives of almost 200 nations.

"The fact that the flag of the UN, an organization which consists of 193 countries, is now flying on Argentine territory fills me with pride. It clearly shows Argentina's strong commitment to multilateralism," stated Foreign Minister Faurie today during a ceremony in which the Argentine flag and the UN flag were raised. It took place at the Convention Centre, hours before the beginning of the 2nd High-Level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation.

The UN flag flying at the CEC signals the establishment of the Blue Zone, which means that the United Nations System has jurisdiction over that area.

"From now on and until March 22, this space belongs to each of the member countries of the United Nations. I hope it serves as the appropriate context to reach substantial agreements towards more cooperation," Faurie stated. He further thanked "the international community for its trust", illustrated by the decision to make Argentina the host country of the Conference.

The multilateral Conference, which will begin tomorrow at the Buenos Aires Convention Centre, is the most important conference on South-South Cooperation. It will revolve around the sharing of experience and knowledge with a view to strengthening the capabilities of the states. Representatives of the 193 UN member states, international organizations and more than 1500 participants will attend the Conference.

President Mauricio Macri will officially open the Conference tomorrow as from 10 a.m., along with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres. Later, Foreign Minister Faurie will take over as Chair of the Conference.
