“India has enough vaccines in stock to administer 2.5 million doses per day. If they overcome this unexpected infection peak that started about twenty days ago, they will resume the shipment of Covishield vaccines to Argentina,” the Foreign Minister stated after meeting with the Indian Ambassador, Dinesh Bhatia.
Solá also stated that they talked about issues related to the pandemic and the situation of the Covaxin vaccine, which is also produced in India and is pending approval from Argentina, so as to “have everything ready for possible future shipments.”
The meeting was also attended by the Chief of the Private Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guillermo Justo Chaves.
The Covishield vaccine is a variation of the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, produced by the Serum Institute of India under a cooperation agreement. The Argentine government agreed to purchase 1,160,000 doses, of which 580,000 have already arrived. Trials have shown that each dose is 76% effective against coronavirus.
Finally, with regard to bilateral economic relations, the Minister received a formal request for the opening of traditional exports from India, which are currently subject to the applicable import regulations.
