Today, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino attended a meeting hosted by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BCBA), as part of the celebration of the 170th anniversary of its foundation (1854-2024).
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship and the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Abigail Dressel, met with leaders of major agricultural companies and authorities from the oldest business entity in Argentina.
During her speech, the Foreign Minister emphasized the need to promote open, transparent, fair and rules-based international trade. She highlighted the existing alignment between Argentina and the United States regarding international trade in agro-industrial products, evidenced by the positions of both countries in international fora. She also pointed out the advisability of achieving further progress in postponed agricultural negotiations. In addition, Mondino highlighted the importance of agro-industrial exports from Argentina and the United States for global food security.
Likewise, the Foreign Minister advocated for free trade and complained about the distortions generated by state intervention in the agricultural sector, reiterating Argentina's national position recently upheld at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.
Mondino also talked about the view shared between Argentina and the US on the use of unilateral measures by some WTO members to address global issues, such as the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation. She explained that, like the United States, Argentina has requested the EU to postpone the implementation of this unilateral regulation, which could lead to unnecessary trade disruptions.
Finally, the Foreign Minister and the Deputy Head of Mission Dressel expressed their interest in continuing to work together to increase and promote bilateral and global trade.
