Foreign Minister Mondino met with the Argentine candidate to lead the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH)

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met with Dr. Luis Barcos, the Argentine candidate for the position of Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), in the elections to be held in May in Paris, France.

Barcos is a renowned veterinarian born in the city of Colón, Province of Buenos Aires, with extensive experience in both the private and Federal public sectors. For the past 20 years, Dr. Luis Barcos has served as WOAH Regional Representative and, previously, from 1996 to 1999, he served as President of the National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA).

The WOAH is the international authority on animal health. It was founded in 1924 as the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) and Argentina, along with 24 countries, is one of its founders. Currently the organization has 183 Members and its mission consists of developing standards for global trade in animals and products of animal origin.

In his meeting with Foreign Minister Mondino, Dr Barcos expressed his gratitude to the Argentine Government for the presentation of his candidacy and listed the main objectives and priorities for his potential tenure, if elected as Director General of the WOAH.
