Foreign Minister Mondino met with the heads of un offices in Argentina

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met today with the Heads of United Nations agencies with offices in Argentina.

The meeting was attended by the following representatives, led by Resident Coordinator Claudia Mojica: the Regional Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Karmen Sakhr; the Regional Representative of UNESCO, Ernesto Fernández Polcuch; UNICEF’s Representative in Argentina, Luisa Brumana; the Head of the Office of the Population Fund, Mariana Isasi; the Head of the Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Gabriela Fernández; the Director of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Martín Abeles; the Deputy Regional Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Xavier Mena; the UN-Women Representative ad interim, Magdalena Furtado; the Deputy Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), Valentín González, and the Director ad interim of the International Labour Organization Country Office, Elena Montobbio.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce those responsible for implementing the mandates and programmes of the United Nations in Argentina, as well as to present the main actions taken by the agencies in the field and the schedule of upcoming activities. The work of the United Nations in Argentina is carried out within the scope of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), which is based on national development priorities.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Mondino had the opportunity to come into contact, for the first time, with the UN agencies in the country and reaffirmed Argentina’s commitment to the work of the United Nations and to multilateralism in general.

Argentina is a founding member of the United Nations and plays an active and prominent role in its different fora and specialized organizations, particularly in matters related to international peace and security, the promotion and protection of human rights, and sustainable development.

In addition, those present at the meeting agreed to maintain fluid and permanent dialogue to reinvigorate the relationship with the United Nations, taking into account the upcoming renewal of the UNSDCF, on the basis of the new priorities and strategic goals identified by the Government.
