Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met today at the Palacio San Martín with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Gordan Grlić Radman, in the context of his official visit to Argentina.
During the working meeting held after the wreath-laying ceremony conducted at the José de San Martín Monument, the Foreign Ministers highlighted the historical ties between both countries, which date back to the arrival in Argentina of a major Croatian immigration wave. In this respect, Minister Radman explained that there is currently a Croatian community in Argentina made up of approximately 300,000 members. On the basis of these shared ties and cultures, Mondino and her Croatian counterpart agreed on the need to strengthen the bilateral relationship and increase trade.
The Ministers then discussed the main topics on the bilateral and multilateral agenda, as well as issues concerning their respective regions. Among other statements, they expressed their mutual desire to cooperate in connection with both their OECD accession processes and their shared concern over the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Radman stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in his country and suggested exploring potential agreements on tourism, migration, tax and security matters, among others.
For her part, Foreign Minister Mondino highlighted the priority Argentina affords to the conclusion of negotiations on the MERCOSUR – EU Strategic Partnership Agreement and noted Argentina’s role as a trustworthy energy supplier and partner in the development of value chains.
