Last night, in Córdoba, Foreign Minister Mondino opened the 5th Plenary Session of the Federal Council on Foreign Relations and International Trade, a forum gathering representatives of all the Argentine provinces and the City of Buenos Aires to coordinate, together with the Federal Government, international projection, regional integration, export promotion and investment attraction.
At the opening of the event, held at the “Arq. Francisco Tamburini” Museum of the Bank of the Province of Córdoba, Foreign Minister Mondino and Deputy Governor Myrian Prunotto welcomed all the provincial representatives that will participate in the Session.
Activities will begin today at 9 in the morning at Córdoba’s Legislature. The Secretary for International Economic Relations, Ambassador Marcelo Cima, the Deputy Governor of Córdoba, Myrian Prunotto, and the Secretary for Regional Integration and International Relations of Córdoba, Juan Carlos Massei, will be in charge of opening the event.
During the event, which is to last until the evening, national and provincial officials will be working within the various Council committees: International Trade and Investments, MERCOSUR and International Negotiations, Physical and Energy Integration (economic), Physical and Economic Integration (political), International Relations and Cooperation, and a Special Committee on Malvinas and South Atlantic Islands.
The Plenary Session of the Federal Council is presided over by the Foreign Minister and is made up of one representative from each provincial government and the City of Buenos Aires, and the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Secretary for International Economic Relations and Undersecretary for National Affairs. Representatives from the Federal Council on Investments (CFI), the Private-Public Council on Export Promotion (CPPPE) and the Federal Network of International Investment and Trade Agencies and Organizations participate in the Session as advisory members.
The Federal Council is a forum for exchange, consultation, advice and coordination between the Federal Government, the provinces and the City of Buenos Aires in connection with international projection, regional integration, export promotion, investment attraction and international cooperation. Its role is to facilitate the exchange of information between the Foreign Ministry and the provinces, as well as to help to better coordinate activities between both parties, so as to provide consistency to foreign policy.
The functions of the Federal Council include: giving advice on the participation of the provinces and the City of Buenos Aires in Argentina’s regional integration process; developing strategies for foreign trade promotion and for the dissemination of exportable supply; giving advice on the organization of and participation in exhibitions, business rounds and trade missions abroad; developing strategies for foreign investment promotion and attraction; promoting the identification of markets and business opportunities abroad; and promoting international cooperation between the provinces and the City of Buenos Aires, and foreign private and public organizations.
