Today at the Presidential Residence in Olivos, Foreign Minister Felipe Solá spoke via teleconference with U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, and they addressed the bilateral relationship between both countries and the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which call for the strengthening of joint work, exchanges and cooperation. In this context, the Argentine Foreign Minister underscored that “our Government appreciates the degree of engagement and goodwill shown by the Trump Administration to help resolve Argentina’s debt problem.”

Regarding the situation in Venezuela, Solá reaffirmed that “Argentina promotes a peaceful political solution negotiated by the Venezuelans themselves, in order to guarantee the functioning of institutions and to ensure peaceful coexistence, free from external pressure or conditions.”

Finally, the Argentine Foreign Minister highlighted the sincere relationship between both countries and, in that context, he stated: “We convey our condolences over the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Argentina is also facing this multidimensional challenge, which has evidenced the need for greater international cooperation in order to fight it in this increasingly interconnected world.”
