The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, members of the Lima Group, strongly condemn and reject the illegal detention of Roberto Marrero and the unacceptable forced entry to congressman Sergio Vergara's residence.
The Lima Group demands from Nicolás Maduro's illegitimate and dictatorial regime that Mr. Marrero be immediately released and that congressman Vergara's parliamentary immunity be fully respected, and it urges international human rights organizations to act immediately with determination within the scope of their competence in relation to Venezuela.
We hold Maduro's regime responsible for the security and integrity of Mr. Roberto Marrero and congressman Sergio Vergara. We demand the end of the harassment suffered by Venezuela's democrats and of the systematic practice of arbitrary detention and torture in Venezuela.
