The Governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia and Venezuela, members of the Lima Group, strongly reject the threat made by the illegitimate National Constituent Assembly of Maduro's regime to unconstitutionally call early elections for the National Assembly of Venezuela, the only legitimate and democratically elected authority.
Any threat made by the National Constituent Assembly and/or Maduro's illegitimate regime against the National Assembly of Venezuela represents an overt challenge to democracy and the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
Maduro's regime has systematically undermined Venezuelan institutions. This attempt to hold early elections and the fact that four members of the National Assembly were stripped of parliamentary immunity are clear violations of all democratic rules, the rule of law and the Venezuelan Constitution.
The Lima Group calls on the international community to jointly express itself and demand the end of these provocative and desperate acts by Maduro's illegitimate regime.
