On June 6, the Economic-Commercial Chapter of the XIII Argentina - European Union Joint Commission held a meeting in virtual format, a bilateral meeting held annually in order to comprehensively review the extensive agenda of economic and commercial matters with the EU.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Undersecretary for International Economic Negotiations and Integration, Ambassador Gabriel Martínez, and the Head of the Americas Unit in the Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) of the European Commission (EC), Paolo Garzotti. Representatives of the Secretariats of Finance, Bioeconomy, Energy, Mining, Commerce, Treasury, Industry, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, the National Institute of Intellectual Property and the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality also participated.
The extensive agenda of topics addressed reflects the relevance of the historical relationship with the EU: economic and commercial issues of mutual interest were reviewed, such as bilateral trade; investments; international, multilateral and regional negotiations; the opening of markets; technical cooperation; the financing and results of bilateral dialogues on Biotechnology, Macroeconomics, Agriculture and Energy; and the current Memoranda on Energy and Critical Minerals. In addition, steps to follow in the bilateral relationship were agreed.
The results of this meeting will be reflected in the next plenary session of the XIII Argentina-European Union Joint Commission that will take place on July 1 in the city of Buenos Aires.
The EU is one of Argentina's main economic and commercial partners. Taken as a whole, it constitutes the 2nd destination of Argentine exports (after Brazil) and the 3rd origin of our imports (after China and Brazil). It is also the main investor in our country.
