The Secretary for International Economic Relations, Marcelo Cima, held a meeting today with Yosuke Matsumoto, Head of the Infrastructure Division at Mitsui.
The Argentine side also included representatives from the Secretariat of Energy (the Undersecretary for Electricity, Damián Sanfilippo; a representative from the Undersecretariat of Energy Transition and Planning, Perla Villar; and the National Director of Electricity Generation, Jorge González), the Secretariat for Mining (the National Director of Mining Promotion and Economy, Jorge Matías González) and the Argentine Agency for Investments and International Trade (AAICI) (Investments Coordinator Santiago Mantelli).
During the meeting, Matsumoto gave an overview of the company and highlighted that it does business on a global scale, as it employs 53,000 workers worldwide and has 125 offices across 61 countries. He particularly stressed Mitsui’s presence in the Americas, where it has 21 offices with over 11,000 employees across Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Canada and the United States.
With respect to Mitsui’s interests in Argentina, Matsumoto stated that the company has been present in Argentina since 1910 and that, after the change of administration, it is considering investments in infrastructure, new energies, gas and mining.
The Argentine authorities discussed the main lines of business of the most relevant economic sectors in our country, especially the agri-food sector —a market in which Argentina has traditionally been a world leader— the mining sector —which is highly dynamic— and activities related to energy transition, where Argentina is developing great potential.
At the end of the meeting, the participants underscored the common ground between Argentina and Japan, as well as Argentina’s OECD accession process.
Currently, Mitsui holds an interest in Terminales Río de la Plata (TRP); engages in oil exploration, together with Eni and TecPetrol; and conducts product trading operations.
