The Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary for Promotion of Exports, Investments, Education, Science and Culture, Minister Ramiro Velloso, met with officials of the Investments and Foreign Trade Promotion Agency of the City of Buenos Aires (investBA) and the State of Bavaria Office for South America—which reports to the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, in the Federal Republic of Germany—within the framework of an event on Innovation and Technology at Palacio San Martín.
The event took place during the visit to Argentina of a public-private delegation of businesspeople from the German federal state, and its goal was to boost businesses in the field of the Knowledge-Based Economy, which is one of the most dynamic sectors at the global level.
Minister Velloso and Minister Carolina Bustos —the Foreign Ministry’s Director for the Promotion of Exports of Knowledge-Based Services, Cultural Industries, Tourism and Sports— were in charge of opening the event.
Then, presentations were made by the Director General at investBA, Gonzalo Chiarullo; the Argentine expert and Executive Director at the Argentinian National Youth Entrepreneurs’ Association (UNAJE), Julián Losardo; and the Head of Foreign Economic Relations for Latin America at the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Ulrike Hoffman.
The Bavarian delegation was led by Georg Schmidt, Head of the Bavarian Department of Strategic Foreign Economic Relations, Localization Policies and Investments, and comprised companies, startups, technology clusters, applied research centres and accelerators in the fields of green technologies, climate innovation, decarbonization, circular economy, new materials, hydrogen, industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, big data and industrial bioeconomy.
On the Argentine side, the participants were mainly companies, startups and centres of applied research on GreenTech, EnergyTech, Big Data, Software and Industry 4.0. In addition, the event included a networking section in order to establish business contacts.
Argentina is home to over 15 technological unicorns and over 30 technological growth poles and clusters. In the past year, the sector’s exports exceeded USD 8.5 billion, which amounts to over 8% of Argentina’s total exports.
