MERCOSUR and Japan strengthen economic relations

The 5th Meeting of the dialogue to strengthen economic relations between MERCOSUR and Japan was held today in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay. Joined by the delegations of Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, Argentine representatives met with Yasushi Noguchi, Director-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, along with a large delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

 

During the meeting, the officials discussed the possibility of enhancing economic and trade relations between the countries, focusing on various topics such as trade negotiations, market access for Mercosur agricultural products, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures. They also highlighted aspects related to trade and investments, supply chains and energy transition.

 

The Mercosur and Japan agreed to continue discussions in the coming weeks to enhance dialogue and generate benefits for all parties involved.

 

For Argentina, the meeting was led by the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations and Integration of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Martínez (who participated virtually from Buenos Aires) and the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Argentine Embassy in Paraguay, Minister Fernando Vallina Padró, from Asunción. The meeting was also attended by other officials from the Foreign Ministry, the Secretariat of Bioeconomy, and the Secretariat of Industry and Productive Development of the Ministry of Economy.
