Today, the 7th Round of Negotiations for a free trade agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) concluded at the Argentine Foreign Ministry, with concrete progress on all chapters.

Delegations were headed by the Undersecretary for MERCOSUR and International Economic Negotiations, Victorio Carpintieri, and Jan Farberg, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries of the Kingdom of Norway, and thanks to a pragmatic and flexible approach progress was made on the various topics dealt with, including the exchange of market access offers for goods, services, investments and government procurement.

The next meeting will be held as from 6 May, also in Buenos Aires, and intensive work between working sessions is expected, with a view to obtaining final results in the following months.

EFTA is a free trade association comprised of Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, whose markets are known for their high consumption capacity per capita and for being sources of capital for foreign direct investment.

Mercosur's main goal is to consolidate and expand the effective access of its products to EFTA's markets, in addition to reaching a broad and modern agreement which includes provisions on all significant trade disciplines for the development of economic flows between both markets.
