On 13-17 May, at the Palacio San Martín, Mercosur and European Union delegations held a series of meetings with a view to making progress on the different areas of trade negotiation between both blocs. The meetings, which were at a technical level, made it possible to advance on all areas.

"We are satisfied with the work carried out by the delegations, which led to substantive progress in most of the issues addressed. There are still some matters we have to agree on, so we need to meet again on a date yet to be set," stated Horacio Reyser, the Secretary for International Economic Relations and Chief Negotiator on behalf of Argentina, which currently holds the Presidency Pro Tempore of Mercosur (PPTA).

During the first semester of 2019, within the framework of Argentina's Presidency Pro Tempore of Mercosur, progress has been made on external negotiations, including current negotiations with Singapore, Canada, EFTA and South Korea.
