The Secretary for International Economic Relations, Marcelo Cima, participated today in the Minerals Security Partnership Forum, during which the provinces of Catamarca, Jujuy, Mendoza, Salta and San Juan made presentations.

The presentation held in Buenos Aires made it possible to introduce investment opportunities in lithium and copper mining projects (our country has one of the main reserves in the world) to more than 200 representatives of companies, banks and investment funds from abroad representing more than 20 countries, who are specifically looking at possibilities to develop projects in Argentina on critical minerals and energy and key for the energy transition that the world is currently experiencing.

In addition to the provincial mining authorities, the Forum had the participation of the Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy and Environment of the United States Department of State, José Fernández; the Secretary of Mining, Luis Lucero; and the Undersecretary for Export Promotion and Investments, Ramiro Velloso, who made a presentation on the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI) for the mining sector.

Argentina has recently joined this Forum, a a multilateral cooperation platform bringing together countries that produce and consume raw materials to promote individual projects and policies that contribute to creating resilient value chains and providing local added value.

Argentina is the fourth largest producer of lithium carbonate in the world after Australia, Chile and China, while, in terms of reserves, it is positioned as the third country, below Chile and Australia, with enormous potential to meet a global demand that increased significantly due to the intensive use of rechargeable batteries for electronic devices and electric vehicles.
