Foreign Minister Diana Mondino arrived on Monday in New York, where her working agenda began with a meeting with private sector leaders. Tomorrow, she will attend a session on the Malvinas Question at the UN Special Committee on Decolonization together with Argentine and British petitioners and other Argentine authorities.
Mondino held a working meeting with the vice president of policy at Americas Society/Council of the Americas and editor-in-chief of Americas Quarterly, Brian Winter; the AS/COA vice president of Public Policy Programs and Corporate Relations, Ragnhild Melzi; and a group of 30 executives of large companies that do business in Argentina or are exploring investment opportunities there.
Foreign Minister Mondino and the business leaders discussed the economic reforms that the Argentine government has been implementing since December 2023, which seek to favour the investment environment, the opening of trade and the full integration of our economy into the global market of goods and services.
In addition, the Argentine Foreign Minister stated that the government is creating the necessary conditions to advance free enterprise and attract capital for investment opportunities in different economic areas, like the energy, food, agricultural and mining sectors, among others.
She also mentioned the OECD accession process, for which purpose Argentina is currently taking all necessary steps.
In this regard, the United States is Argentina’s main source of foreign direct investment, totalling over USD 26 billion, and its third largest trade partner, with bilateral trade exceeding USD 10 billion and vast potential for growth and diversification. As a result, there is interest in enhancing bilateral dialogue so as to identify opportunities that will make it possible to increase trade and investments in strategic sectors.
