The Undersecretariat for the Promotion of Exports, Investments, Education, Science and Culture (SUPCI) organized the "Seminar on Halal Market Opportunities and Challenges," which took place yesterday at Palacio San Martín and was aimed at diversifying exports of halal food, beverages, pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. The event was attended by Ambassadors from the main export destinations accredited to our country and representatives from the Argentine Meat Exporters Association (ABC), Argentine companies and halal certifying bodies in Argentina.

The Undersecretary for the Promotion of Exports, Investments, Education, Science and Culture, Ramiro Velloso, opened the event by highlighting the importance of the Halal market, as well as the Foreign Ministry's commitment and support to increase and diversify Argentine exports in this market. Then, the National Director for International Cooperation and Coordination of the Secretariat of Bioeconomy of the Ministry of Economy, Santiago Bonifacio, talked about matters related to the sale of halal products. Ambassadors and officials from the Kingdom of Thailand, Malaysia, Morocco, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates accredited to our country also participated in the event and offered an overview on trade opportunities in their countries. Finally, the Foreign Ministry's National Director for the Promotion of Trade and Investments, Jorge Perren, closed the event by reviewing the discussions of the seminar.

In order to address the challenge of positioning Argentina as halal exporter, a Working Group has been formed that is made up of officials from SUPCI; the Secretariat of Bioeconomy; the Argentine Animal Health and Agri-food Quality Service (SENASA); Argentine representations in Southeast Asia, Gulf and Northern Africa countries; and representatives from the private sector. The group's objective is to develop a joint strategy to export to countries requiring halal certification to meet those markets' demands. In addition, this will make it possible to diversify the destinations for Argentine meat exports by opening non-traditional markets, which are expected to grow significantly in the future.

Worldwide spending on halal food and beverages is estimated at USD 1.38 trillion in 2024. The global market of halal products, goods and services is expected to reach USD 2.8 trillion in 2025.
