Solá and Brazilian Foreign Minister discussed broad bilateral agenda and cooperation

Following his participation in the ceremony to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the creation of the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC), Felipe Solá held a working meeting with the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França. Joined by the technical teams of both Foreign Ministries, they discussed the broad bilateral agenda between both countries and matters of cooperation.

With regard to Mercosur—Brazil holds the Presidency Pro Tempore this semester—Solá and França stressed the need to protect both institutionality within the bloc and readiness to engage in dialogue among members.

Regarding bilateral trade, Solá told his Brazilian counterpart that there is great potential for further growth and noted that during the first six months of 2021 bilateral exchange rebounded.

The officials also discussed the challenges facing tourism in the post-pandemic era and expressed their expectations with regard to the resumption of flights. The Argentine Foreign Minister conveyed Argentina’s interest to work towards coordination of border entry points.

Solá also referred to the need to continue holding bilateral meetings to monitor the evolution of the unusual ebb affecting the River Plate Basin and to adopt the necessary measures in order to guarantee the supply of drinking water to the people of the riverside provinces of Argentina.

On the same day, the Foreign Ministers of Argentina and Brazil signed the Agreement for the Extension of the International Licence Contract of the Santo Tomé-São Borja Bridge for one year.

The meeting of Foreign Ministers was attended by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, and the Argentine delegation included the Minister of Science and Technology, Roberto Salvarezza; the Chief of the Private Office of the Foreign Ministry, Guillermo Justo Chaves and Ambassador Daniel Scioli. On behalf of Brazil, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Marcos Cesar Pontes; the Secretary for Bilateral and Regional Negotiations in the Americas, Pedro Miguel da Costa e Silva; the Secretary for National Sovereignty and Citizenship, Paulino Carvalho, and the Ambassador to Argentina, Reinaldo Salgado.
