The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) of Uruguay has authorized imports of pork fat, rinds and trimming and boneless pork meat from Argentina, for a six-month period. This authorization, which has been granted to four Argentine exporting companies so far, opens a new market for Argentina’s pork industry and represents a significant opportunity to diversify exports and strengthen the presence of Argentine products abroad.

Argentine pork meat is highly valued in foreign markets due to its superior genetic quality. The opening of this new market in Uruguay contributes to strengthening the sector’s integration into the international arena.

This achievement is the result of coordinated work by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Argentine Animal Health and Agri-food Quality Service (SENASA) and the Secretariat for Bioeconomy. The coordinated efforts between these areas of government made it possible to reach a sanitary agreement with Uruguay, which authorizes Argentina to export these pork products under strict sanitary controls. The authorities hope to make further progress in the procedures required to obtain authorizations for other Argentine exporting companies.

The opening of this new market for Argentine pork meat reflects the Government’s commitment to the development of the agri-food sector and it is expected to create new business opportunities for Argentine companies and to contribute to economic growth.
