Van Riel is the gallery with the longest history in Argentina. It was founded in 1924 by Frans van Riel at 659 Florida street and has maintained its presence until today, now being led by the third generation. The gallery has been a central institution in the local art scene, hosting the “Amigos del Arte” Association, the Ver y Estimar award, and the Institute of Modern Art. It has also been the setting for iconic exhibitions in Argentine art, such as the “First Exhibition of Perceptual Painting” in 1949, the first exhibition of the “Informal Movement” in 1959, and the “Tribute to Vietnam by Plastic Artists” in 1966, among others.
Currently, the gallery operates in a new venue characterized by a minimalist and stripped-down concept. From a contemporary perspective, its current management regularly organizes exhibitions that focus on the quality of the artworks and reflect a continuous commitment to art.
