Video. The 5th Regional Conference of the Finance Section of the Union Network International (UNI) declared its support for the legitimate claim of the people and the government of the Argentine Republic for the recovery of the exercise of sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas. In addition, it requested that United Nations General Assembly Resolutions 2065 and 31/49 be complied with.
The declaration was issued on a motion approved unanimously by representatives of 29 unions and federations of workers in the financial sector from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, United States, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, and Jamaica.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Daniel Filmus, and the Secretary General of the Banking Association, Sergio Palazzo, who was re-elected to the presidency of the American Regional of the Finance Section of UNI, an organization that brings together workers in the service sector across the world.
“We appreciate the commitment to the Malvinas cause of the banking unions throughout America, who agreed that it is a regional issue and that there is no place for colonialism in the 21st century. The fact that there is still a part of the territory that is occupied by a colonial power is an offense to all the countries of America”, highlighted Filmus.
For his part, Palazzo explained that “the motion was a request that we made from Argentina to all the banking colleagues in the region to join us in the claim carried out by our country regarding the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, which are a part of the national territory”.
