By Raúl Guastavino, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Kingdom of Morocco
On June 10th, together with the commemoration of the "Day of the affirmation of Argentine rights over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias and the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas", the Commission for Dialogue for Malvinas in Morocco was established, with a meeting in which academics, intellectuals, officials of the House of Representatives, and authorities from Moroccan universities and think tanks participated.
At said meeting, and after making a historical and legal review of the elements that support the claim of sovereignty for legitimate Argentine rights over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias, South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas, I stated that the Commissions for The Dialogue for Malvinas aims to give visibility to the issue of promoting compliance with United Nations Resolutions, and to peacefully resume negotiations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The members of the Commission held a valuable exchange of opinions regarding possible lines of action to promote the objectives of the Commission. In this regard, they agreed to give continuity to these meetings, as well as to other types of activities that help to give visibility to the Malvinas Question in this North African country. A statement was issued to the Moroccan press reporting on this meeting.
Morocco participates at the South America-Africa Cooperation Forum (ASA), at the South America-Arab Countries Summit (ASPA) and is member of the Group pf 77 and China (G77). These multilateral fora support the resumption of negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom in order to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the Malvinas Question, or recognize the legitimate Argentine rights in the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias and South Sandwich and the surrounding maritime areas.
Since December 2019, the Argentine Government has been promoting the establishment of Commissions for Dialogue for Malvinas at the international level, a task promoted by Argentine representations abroad.
