The Secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, signed, together with the rector of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Alberto Barbieri, a mutual cooperation agreement to promote research, training and dissemination of issues related to the Malvinas Islands, Antarctica and the South Atlantic.
Within the framework of this agreement, celebrated on October 28, the Foreign Ministry and the UBA will work together in scientific development and articulate research on issues related to natural resources, the environment and the economic development of the Malvinas Islands, Antarctica and the South Atlantic.
Filmus highlighted the importance of the agreement, which will allow “jointly promoting training aimed at teachers on issues related to the Malvinas Islands, Antarctica and the South Atlantic, promoting the establishment of courses and chairs on the subject for the educational community, as well as technical collaboration and advice from the UBA to the Secretariat of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic”. He added that it will also lead to “work and exchange meetings between chairs, observatories and researchers on these issues”.
The UBA, through its researchers and teachers, meets all the conditions to collaborate in training or research activities carried out by the Secretariat of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including integration with the different educational levels.
The arrangement is part of the agreement signed electronically on May 5 between the National Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship and the University of Buenos Aires. In order to carry out the actions described, the UBA -through its Interdisciplinary Unit of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic- will establish the corresponding calls in order to advance in the application and selection of the academics who will participate in such activities.
