Malvinas: 500th anniversary of the discovery

Watch VIDEO. According to recent historiographic and cartographic research, the discovery of the Malvinas Islands was made by one of the ships belonging to the Magellan Expedition through the South Atlantic, organized by Spain.

The discovery is a milestone among the historical and legal background that support sovereign rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime spaces.

This anniversary is particularly significant as it coincides with the bicentennial of the first raising of the national flag in the Malvinas, which took place on November 6, 1820. David Jewett was the first man to raise the Argentine flag in the Islands.
