The Minister of Defense, Agustín Rossi, together with the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, and the leaders of the Argentine Armed Forces, led in the Plaza de Armas of the Libertador Building the act in commemoration of the Day of the Veterans and Fallen of the Malvinas War, on the 39th anniversary of the conflict in the South Atlantic. “This date invites us to look at Malvinas from different perspectives, we choose that of sovereignty, and that of those who wrote its most glorious pages”, said Rossi before the veterans that attended the ceremony.
Next, the head of the military portfolio announced the creation of the commission “Malvinas, 40 years”, to exercise memory and honor the fallen and survivors and affirmed “the vigil for the 40th anniversary of the Malvinas War begins today. We have created a Commission that is destined to turn this into a deeply ‘Malvinian’ year, where Malvinas is present 365 days in each corner of the country”. “The protagonists will be our veterans, whom Argentina must honor. The first years were not easy, recognition took a long time. We believe that this is the moment in which this recognition is made explicit throughout the country”, said Rossi in recognition of the men and women of the Armed Forces who participated in the military actions of 1982.
During the ceremony, at the Monument to the Fallen Soldier located in the Plaza de Armas, the authorities discovered a tribute plaque with the legend “To the Veterans and Fallen in the Malvinas War, for their patriotism in defense of national sovereignty. We must not forget them“. Meanwhile, floral offerings were delivered from the ministries of Defense and Security.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Division General Juan Martín Paleo, highlighted: “The Malvinas Cause must exceed all personal interest. Their veterans are our contemporary heroes”. And he added: “Malvinas showed the importance of the joint work of the Forces nowadays present in operations Belgrano I and II”.
The Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, said “We highlight the commitment of President Alberto Fernández who keeps alive the claim on the exercise of sovereignty over the islands and advances in improvements for veterans through three bills that he will send to Congress”.
