Declaration of Buenos Aires

On the XIX High Level Meeting of the Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs between CELAC and the European Union, held in the San Martín Palace on May 18th and 19th, member States adopted the "Declaration of Buenos Aires".

In this document member States commit themselves to adopt practical and effective measures for primary prevention that will protect people, children and youth in particular, from initiation in the use of drugs and provide them with adequate information about drug abuse risks. They also commit themselves to strengthen national, regional and international monitoring of chemicals (precursors) used in the production of illicit drugs and new psychoactive substances, in order to more efficiently prevent diversion and traffic of those precursors, and, at the same time, assure the legal use of those chemicals.
