From 29 August to 1 September 2017, the 2nd Round of MERCOSUR-EFTA Negotiations was held in Geneva, Switzerland, with a view to reaching a Free Trade Agreement. Negotiations were conducted in a constructive and amicable spirit, and considerable progress was made on all areas.
The MERCOSUR delegation was headed by Victorio Carpintieri, in charge of the Undersecretariat for Economic Integration with the Americas and MERCOSUR. In turn, the EFTA delegation was headed by Jan Farberg, Director General of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
Both sides engaged in a fruitful exchange of information on all areas, including Trade in Goods, Trade Facilitation and Customs Cooperation, Trade in Services, Technical Barriers to Trade, Intellectual Property, Rules of Origin, Public Procurement, Trade and Sustainable Development, Investment, Trade Defence, Competition and Legal and Horizontal Matters.
In order to continue working on pending issues, MERCOSUR and EFTA agreed to hold an Intersessional meeting on market access in Buenos Aires, next 16-17 October.
