47th OAS General Assembly in Cancun, Mexico: Bilateral meetings with representatives of several Latin American and Caribbean Countries

Within the framework of the 47th OAS General Assembly held from Monday 19 June until today in Cancun, Mexico, Foreign Minister Faurie held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the region.

At the meetings with the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru and Suriname, the Argentine Foreign Minister and his counterparts from the region addressed topics of their respective bilateral agendas and shared ideas on topics of regional interest, particularly the situation in the Republic of Venezuela.

They also agreed on the need to strengthen and establish concrete goals aimed at connectivity and regional development for the integration mechanisms of which they are members, with a view to progress and the welfare of their peoples. 

In this regard, they underscored the importance of prioritizing in their regional groups the promotion of infrastructure projects with a regional scope and impact, which can contribute to the economic development of their countries and of the region in general.

The Argentine Foreign Minister also held a working breakfast for the Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and for the Deputy Secretary General of the Organization.  In this context, the participants reviewed the cooperation projects carried out by Argentina in the region for 25 years and identified new areas of joint work with CARICOM countries, such as tourism development, agriculture and agri-industry, water resources, sanitation, environmental conservation within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, culture and education.

At all of the meetings, Foreign Minister Faurie specially thanked his counterparts for their countries' permanent support at the OAS and other international forums for Argentina's sovereign rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.
