On Thursday 12 October, the 9th Political Consultations Meeting between Argentina and Switzerland was held at the Palacio San Martín, headed by the Undersecretary for Foreign Relations, Gustavo Zlauvinen, and by the Deputy State Secretary for the Americas, Bénédict de Cerjat.

On the occasion, the excellent state of the bilateral relationship was highlighted, demonstrated by the various meetings held at the presidential and ministerial levels since President Macri took office, which ultimately led to the official visit of President Doris Leuthard to Argentina last April.

In addition, the officials underscored the similar values shared by both countries as regards key items on the global agenda that inspire bilateral cooperation initiatives. In that regard, both Heads of Delegation reviewed the main issues that are a testament to the dynamics of Argentine-Swiss relations: increase in trade and investment, infrastructure projects, scientific, technological and triangular cooperation, dialogue on anti-corruption matters, judicial cooperation, cultural relations, multilateral cooperation on human rights, and G20, among others.

Special reference was made to the following international events which will be hosted by Argentina: the Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour, the WTO Ministerial Conference and the G20 Presidency.

Finally, the officials exchanged views on global challenges and the role of Argentina and Switzerland as responsible actors in that context.
