Ceremony chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi
"The fact that the anniversary of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) falls on the same day as our May Revolution -25 May- symbolizes the great understanding that we share with all the African peoples," Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi stated on the occasion of the celebration of Africa Day, which included a tribute to Winnie and Nelson Mandela and a performance of Afro-flamenco dance.
Alongside the Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and Dean of the Ambassadors of African countries, Benaouda Hamel, Raimondi recalled "the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963, with the aim of promoting unity and solidarity among African States and being the voice of the continent, which still continues to advocate for unity and propose alternatives to meet the challenges on the global political agenda."
Raimondi expressed Argentina's appreciation for the continued support of the members of the African Union for Argentina's claim regarding the Question of the Malvinas, Georgias and South Sandwich Islands, and underscored Argentina's cooperation with African countries, including both South-South cooperation and political, economic, social and cultural cooperation. The Deputy Foreign Minister also underscored Argentina's humanitarian cooperation through the White Helmets and its participation in UN peace-keeping operations.
As regards the Argentine G20 Presidency, he stated that "our efforts are aimed at building consensus for fair and sustainable development, which is why we regard dialogue with Africa as paramount and we expect to continue having Africa's support during the preparation for the Leaders' Summit to be held in November in Buenos Aires."
Finally, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that: "Africa is multifaceted in terms of ethnic, cultural, religious, linguistic and biological diversity. Its human capital and vision of the world most certainly enrich the new inclusive international structure."
It is worth noting that Argentina supports the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and joined the African Union as an observer 9 years ago.
